Marketing on the internet today is a tricky proposition at best. The biggest consideration for any business looking for income from the internet is not "should I have an internet presence?" but rather "how do I make my internet presence bring new and return business?"

There are several questions that you need to answer to build a strong internet presence and marketing plan:

1. Who are you trying to reach on the net? If you are looking at a local market as your primary source of business your marketing plan will be different than if you are looking at a more far reaching, international market.

2. Do you want your website to be a "sales letter" or do you want to build a "content based" website? Since people on the net are looking for information, content based sites generally do better than the sales letter sites.

3. How much time do you plan to have to work on and continually improve your site? If you do not have time to build a good site, you need to be careful about putting up a bad one.

Once your site is up and running, you then must get people to the site. This is where the innovative thinking comes into play. There are multitudes of ways to get people to your site. Again, there is are many ways to get this done, the biggest thing is what your site is for and who your target market is going to be.

The value of your site to your business will be measured by the desired results of new and return visitors using and recommending your business.
